Anklamer Tor (city side)

The Anklamer Tor , the former stone gate, is one of the gates of the fortifications that surrounded the city of Friedland in Mecklenburg.

The building served to protect the northern entrance to the city and was the first of three city gates to be built as part of the medieval fortifications. The other two gates are the Neubrandenburger Tor (formerly Burgtor) and the Treptower Tor, which was demolished in 1802.

The building is a five-storey Gothic brick building from the early 14th century. It is a square gate tower with a stepped gable over a pointed arched passage and has two round corner towers with conical helmets on both sides. The substructure is made of field stones and the superstructure is made of bricks . The building was once the main gate of a gate fort with a front gate and zingel walls. The Anklamer Tor was restored in 1995 and is one of the sights of Friedland today.
