It was founded in 1951 by Anna Haag and is now run by a non-profit organization, the Anna Haag Mehrgenerationenhaus eV. The institution follows the idea of the extended family and unites a senior center, an educational facility for young people and adults with reduced performance, and a day-care center under the roof of its parent company. The intergenerational life with a multitude of opportunities for encounters between old and young forms the main conceptual pillar of the house. inclusion and the neighborhood approach were added as further conceptual focal points, with non-profit subsidiaries and additional locations being created.

Anna-Haag multi-generation house

history

The Anna-Haag-Haus was built in 1951 as a dormitory for single girls and women at Gnesener Strasse 20/22 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. It also comprised a youth center with three halls, a youth library, several handicrafts, a pottery, a carpentry and rooms for looking after children from the immediate area and became a place for generations to come together at an early stage. In 1976 the social working group Anna-Haag-Haus e. V. founded, which today is called Anna-Haag-Mehrgenerationenhaus e. V. wears. During this time, the three central areas of the house developed - in 1976 the educational facility, initially with training and support for girls with learning difficulties, in 1978 the day-care center, and in 1981 the guest house for senior citizens (nursing home) with permanent and short-term care places. In the following years the offers were expanded and differentiated and the intergenerational concept was further developed. From the year 2000, a conceptually and architecturally up-to-date new building, the Anna-Haag-Mehrgenerationenhaus, was built and moved into in the summer of 2007 at Martha-Schmidtmann-Strasse 16 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. Designed by the architects Aldinger & Aldinger, it was awarded by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects in the competition “Exemplary Building Stuttgart 2002-2007”.

The founder Anna Haag

Anna Haag (1888–1982) was a writer and politician who campaigned for the right to conscientious objection and equal rights for women and the improvement of their living conditions. With the support of other women from Stuttgart, the city of Stuttgart and American donations, the Anna Haag House was built in Bad Cannstatt on their initiative.

organization

The Anna-Haag-Haus has been run by a non-profit association since the mid-1970s. It was founded as the “Social Work Group Anna-Haag-Haus e. V. ”, in April 2010 the name was changed to“ Anna-Haag-Mehrgenerationenhaus e. V. ”changed. In November 2000 the association fundamentally reformed its organizational form with a full-time executive board and a voluntary supervisory board. The association has three non-profit subsidiaries: Anna Haag Mobil gGmbH, TANDiEM gGmbH and Anna Haag Stiftung gGmbH.

Areas of the association

The Anna Haag Mehrgenerationenhaus eV comprises three central areas:

Senior center

A total of 84 senior citizens live in permanent or short-term care in the Anna-Haag multi-generation house. The senior center is geared towards encounters and togetherness between generations. The furnishing of the living areas enables residents with reduced mobility to participate. There are special activation and care offers for people with dementia , and the interior design of the house is geared towards the needs of residents with dementia changes.

Educational institution

The educational establishment is a recognized provider of professional measures in household, technical, technical and nursing professions. These are aimed at young people with (learning) disabilities, especially pupils from special schools and special needs schools, as well as adults with placement obstacles on the job market. More than 180 people take part in the training, support and qualification measures as well as in vocational preparation. The spectrum includes:

  • (Rehabilitation) training in the professions of a car specialist, a specialist for building and environmental services, an assistant cook and a specialist in housekeeping
  • Support group (integration assistance for people with disabilities)
  • Special vocational school
  • Vocational training measure (BvB)
  • Continuing education and qualification (promotion of professional development - FBW)

The aim of these training measures is professional (re-) integration. An in-house placement center, built with funding from foundations and the European Social Fund , takes care of the integration of graduates into the primary labor market. The percentage of graduates who switch to employment subject to social security contributions or to further training is regularly 85 percent and more. Housing offers with educational support at several locations, including a private boarding school , outdoor living groups, socio-educationally supported housing (SPBW) and shared apartments with outpatient care complement the educational offers and contribute to stabilization and an (more) independent lifestyle.

Day care centers

The Anna-Haag-Mehrgenerationenhaus e. V. operates two all- day day- care centers , the “Kita Anna Haag” for 70 children and the “Kindervilla Anna Haag” with 55 places, a few minutes' walk from the main building with park-like grounds and play and climbing facilities. Following the inclusive approach of the house, children with and without disabilities are taken in and cared for together. The proportion of male pedagogical specialists is above average at around 30 percent (as of June 2013).

Cross-divisional concepts

Intergenerational overall concept

The model for the intergenerational work of the Anna-Haag-Haus is the extended family for the coexistence of old and young, which is to be achieved through institutionalized encounters and jointly organized activities - in an age range from 0 to 105 years. To make this possible, the following framework conditions were set:

  1. Personnel: The overall goal of “creating a cross-generational everyday life” applies equally to every employee. In order to create understanding and transparency between the individual areas, an observation program was established through which three employees observe each month for three days in the three areas.
  2. Space: The cubic structure and the design of the house with lots of glass and transparency should enable encounters and promote mutual awareness.
  3. Generation and district manager: The control and control center in the coordination of intergenerational coexistence is the generation and district manager, who also acts as a link between the Anna-Haag-Haus and the district.
  4. Projects and activities: In addition to seasonal celebrations and everyday activities, this includes the weekly intergenerational breakfast and the theater of the generations.

The quarter

The Anna-Haag-Haus works in a community-oriented, neighborhood -related manner and operates neighborhood management in the sense that it is dedicated to improving the quality of life in neighborhoods / districts. For example, the “Espaner Aktiongemeinschaft” was initiated at the headquarters in the Espan district to revitalize the district and to push ahead with the opening of the building. The open lunch menu, the “Café Haag” as well as various events and festivals were created. The district offers at other locations of the subsidiary Anna Haag Mobil include the "Neighborhood meeting place Badbrunnen" in the Bad Cannstatt district "Im Geiger" in cooperation with the Bad Cannstatt eG building cooperative and a "Wohncafé" with a multi-generation concept "Living in Ostheim" in the Ostheim district (Stuttgart -Ost) with the Stuttgart construction and housing association and St. Josef gGmbH.

inclusion

The basic idea of social inclusion is also the basis of today's work in all areas, locations and subsidiaries to allow people with disabilities to participate equally in the labor market and in society as a whole. This also applies to kindergartens, elderly care and external care offers; Housing for people with disabilities is implemented centrally in the respective quarter and in apartment buildings in which people with and without disabilities live.
