Anna Retulainen

Anna Retulainen (born 1969 in Orimattila ) is a Finnish painter .

Career

Anna Retulainen studied at the Helsinki University of Art and Design (TAIK) and the Swedish University of Art and Design (Konstfack) . She has been a painter since 1995. Retulainen lives and works in Helsinki and Berlin .

style

Her style is expressive and characterized by a rich but balanced use of colors. The starting point of her painting are often still lifes of everyday objects, which she abstracts. The dynamics of their works are usually inspired by music.

Exhibitions and prizes

Retulainen is the first artist from whom a work was acquired for the Finnish presidential palace during her lifetime. In 2018 she received the Prize of the Finnish Cultural Foundation. She was nominated for the Carnegie Art Award in 1999 and 2014 and was the first to receive the William Thuring Grand Prize of the Finnish Art Society in 2005.

Her works have been shown in Berlin (2014) and Leipzig ( Kunstkraftwerk 2016), among others. They have been exhibited in Finnish museums and are part of the permanent collection of the Finnish Museum of Modern Art ( Kiasma ).
