Annals of Emergency Medicine , abbreviated Ann. Emerg. Med. , Is a scientific journal published by Elsevier for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). The journal has been published monthly since 1972 and includes original articles, systematic reviews , guidelines for emergency medical practice, case and picture reports, and commentaries dealing with emergency medical topics.
With an impact factor of 4.285 in 2012, the journal is ranked first in the emergency medicine category according to the statistics of the ISI Web of Knowledge . In a list published in 2009, the journal was counted among the "100 most influential scientific journals from biology and medicine".
Trivia
The magazine published two articles that were later awarded the Ig Nobel Prize, a satirical award for scientific achievements that "make people laugh first, then think":
- 1994: Richard A. Gustafson of the University of Arizona , Health Sciences Center, for his well-founded work on "Failure of Electroshock Treatment for Rattlesnake Bite".
- 2006: Francis M. Fesmire of the University of Tennessee , College of Medicine, for his medical case report, "Ending Untreatable Hiccups with Rectal Finger Massage".
