Anne-Elisabeth Gottrau

Anne-Elisabeth Gottrau (born December 25, 1607 in Freiburg im Üechtland ; † November 26, 1657 ibid) was a Swiss mystic and Cistercian who died in the name of a saint . From 1654 to 1657 she followed as Abbess Anne Techtermann (1607-1654) in the Magerau Abbey , in which she had entered in 1623.

Life

Anne-Elisabeth Gottrau was born in 1607 as the daughter of Jost, a member of the Council of Two Hundred , and Elisabeth de Reyff. In 1623 she entered the Cistercian abbey of La Maigrauge / Magerau. In 1625 she took the dress of the order and in 1627 made the religious vows . She first became the abbey organist , then subpriorin in 1630 . Further stations were novice mistress in 1634 and prioress in 1643. In 1654 she was elected abbess. Many of her spiritual writings are kept in La Maigrauge; the majority of these are unpublished manuscripts.

Anne-Elisabeth Gottrau died a few weeks before she turned 50 in Freiburg.
