Anne O'Brien, 2nd Countess of Orkney (born Lady Anne Hamilton , † December 7, 1756 ), was a Scottish-British noblewoman .

Life

She was the eldest daughter of the British Field Marshal George Hamilton, 1st Earl of Orkney , of the Douglas-Hamilton family . Her mother was his wife Elizabeth Villiers († 1733).

On March 29, 1720, she married her maternal cousin, Irish nobleman William O'Brien, 4th Earl of Inchiquin . With him she had a daughter and four sons:

Since her father left no sons, she inherited his Scottish nobility titles as 2nd Countess of Orkney , 2nd Viscountess of Kirkwall and 2nd Lady Dechmont on his death in 1737 .

Since all of her sons died young and before her, their titles of nobility fell to her daughter Mary when she died. The titles of her husband William O'Brien were only inheritable in the male line and fell to his nephew Murrough O'Brien as 5th Earl of Inchiquin . This was also her son-in-law since he had married her daughter Mary in 1753.
