Annemarie Burckhardt , married Annemarie Burckhardt-Wackernagel (born March 3, 1930 in Basel ; † July 15, 2012 ) was a Swiss object artist .

life and work

Annemarie Wackernagel had been married to Lucius Burckhardt since 1955 and worked with him. In 1973 she moved to Kassel with her husband, who taught at the comprehensive university there. Together they developed promenadology in the 1980s , a cultural and aesthetic method that aims to make people aware of the conditions of environmental perception and to expand them.

With the wrong catalog for documenta IX, Annemarie Burckhardt produced a book object which caused a sensation in 1991.

After 1986, the year of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster and the Schweizerhalle chemical disaster , the Burckhardts and like-minded people founded the GAB (Green and Alternative Basel), which, together with the Basel Green Party and other organizations, had a few seats in the Basel Grand Council in 1987 conquered.

In 1996, Annemarie Burckhardt was elected as a green candidate for the Grand Council of Basel-Stadt, of which she was a member until 2001 and mainly spoke on issues of social planning and urban development.

In 1996 Annemarie Burckhardt and her husband definitely moved back to Basel, where the two of them had their main residence throughout their lives. Together with her husband, she has committed herself to making public space creative and democratic.

After the death of Lucius Burckhardt in 2003, Annemarie Burckhardt founded the Lucius and Annemarie Burckhardt Foundation in 2009 .

The couple was posthumously represented at documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens in 2017 .
