Anno Salutis ( Latin "in the year of salvation" or "in the year of redemption"), abbreviated AS , is a formula used until the 18th century for dates, which like Anno Domini , AD and others the birth of Jesus Christ as Reference date used.

The formulation becomes understandable against the background of the Christian doctrine of salvation , which proceeds from the idea that the birth of Christ redeems people from the eternal damnation that is bestowed on them because of their sins .

Similar formulations are Anno Nostrae Salutis ("in the year of our salvation"), Anno Salutis Humanae ("in the year of human salvation"), Anno Reparatae Salutis ("in the year of accomplished salvation"), Anno recuperatae salutis ("in the year of being regained." / reacquired salvation ") or Anno Christianae Salutis (" in the year of Christian salvation ").

The Austrian addition Anno Schnee is a joke tender for the Anno Salutis abbreviation AS and means then , in the past . Similar phrases are Anno then , Anno dunnemals and Anno Tobak, and Zu Olim's times .
