Anoplotettix fuscovenosus is a dwarf cicada from the subfamily of the chirps (Deltocephalinae).

features

The cicadas are 5.5–6.5 mm long. They have a brownish or yellowish basic color. The black spots between the compound eyes are characteristic of the cicada species . The forewings show a dark veining , hence the specific epithet fuscovenosus .

Occurrence

The species has its distribution center in the Mediterranean area and the Black Sea. It occurs in southern Europe as well as in North Africa. The species is also represented in Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic. In the Upper Rhine Graben there have been individual sightings of the cicadas.

Way of life

The nymphs live on herbaceous plants, while the full-grown cicadas can be found on fruit trees (pears and apples), on vines and on various deciduous trees. Anoplotettix fuscovenosus forms one generation per year. The species overwinters in the egg stage. The nymphs develop in spring, the adults are observed from the beginning of June.
