Only specially trained and obligated persons may be used as slingers at manholes. The man in charge of the attackers is the manhole climber or manhole maneuver.

tasks

Material and goods handling

The slingers load the conveyors, open and close the shaft gates and carry out special transports. The latter includes material that is hung in the pit or conveyed out and does not fit into the conveying vessels, such as B. long timber, large expansion parts or mining machines.

Rope ride

The slinger is responsible for safety during the rope ride, i. H. Responsible for determining the sequence, maintaining order and locking the supporting floors using blinds or gates.

Special activities

This includes the trial run and the weekly rope inspection, during which the machinist carries out a drive at a very slow speed, while one or more slingers check the hoisting rope for damage.

Signaling

The attacker also has the task of giving a signal when the shaft cage is to be set in motion or stopped. The number of strokes is regulated on a notice board (sign) near the shaft - see the following example of a notice board:

  • 1 hit = stop
  • 2 hits = up
  • 3 strokes = hanging (downwards)
  • 4 strokes = start and end of the rope journey
  • 4 + 1 strokes = self-propelled
  • 5 strokes = to the 700 m midsole

etymology

The term slugger comes from the time when conveying barrels were still used , which were attached to or cut off from the rope with every drive .
