Connection zone

The area between the territorial waters and the Exclusive Economic Zone is referred to as the connecting zone in maritime law .

According to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 , the connecting zone is a maximum of 24  nautical miles (around 44 km) from the baseline . In the connection zone, the state has only limited sovereign rights, for example police powers with regard to entry and customs control.
