Ansgar Jüngel

Ansgar Jüngel (* 1966 in Berlin ) is a German mathematician who deals with partial differential equations and their technical applications, for example in mathematical simulations of components in the semiconductor industry.

From 1985 Jüngel studied mathematics, physics and computer science at the TU Berlin and at the École normal supérieure in Paris , where he received his diploma in 1991 with a thesis in which the movement of liquid plastic was mathematically modeled. In 1994 he received his doctorate in mathematics from Hansgeorg Jeggle (1939–1998) and Peter Markowich at the TU Berlin ( A drift diffusion model for semiconductors with nonlinear diffusion: Analysis and numerical approximation ). He was an assistant at the University of Rostock and the Technical University of Berlin , from 1999 professor at the University of Konstanz and from 2002 at the University of Mainz . Since 2006 he has been Professor of Mathematical Analysis at the Vienna University of Technology . He was visiting professor in Nice, Toulouse, Paris, Lille, Marseille and Texas, among others.

In 1992 he received the Erwin Stephan Prize of the TU Berlin , in 1999 the Gerhard Hess Prize of the German Research Foundation and in 2011 the Taiwanese Tsungming Tu Prize .
