Ansgarius is an impact crater near the eastern edge on the visible moon side. Viewed from the earth , it appears as an elongated oval due to the optical shortening, but in reality it is almost perfectly circular. It is located southeast of the La Pérouse crater and north of Behaim .

The Ansgarius crater rim does not show any major traces of erosion. In the southwest it appears rather flattened and penetrates an older formation, of which hardly any remains can be seen except for the western edge. A notch-like bulge protrudes outward in the north-northeast wall. The inner walls are terraced. The crater floor is relatively flat and its surface is only torn open by a few mini craters.
