La Pérouse is an impact crater near the eastern edge of the visible moon side. It is located northwest of Ansgarius crater and east of Kapteyn . Due to its location, the crater appears shortened when viewed from the earth . From orbit, however, its true shape can be seen to be almost circular.
The edge of La Pérouse is almost untouched by subsequent impacts and is clearly visible. It has a small extension and smaller bulges in the south-southeast and south-southwest area. The interior walls are largely structured by terraces. A central peak rises from the crater floor to the north-east of the center and is slightly extended to the south-east. To the southeast of this formation, the crater floor is marked by a small impact.
The crater is sometimes referred to as La Peyrouse .
