Steel engraving

The view of Dettelbach is a steel engraving from the first half of the 19th century. It shows Dettelbach , a town in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen ( Bavaria ).

The work, which was created before 1847, was created according to a preliminary drawing by the landscape painter Fritz Bamberger . It appeared in 1847 in Ludwig Braunfels' book Die Mainufer and their immediate surroundings , published by Carl Etlinger in Würzburg . The volume was printed in Carl Mayer's art institute in Nuremberg .

Ludwig Braunfels writes: “Dettelbach is a wealthy place; it makes wine and does very profitable trade. Formerly the seat of a Würzburg Oberamt it now has a regional court, a rent office and a postal expedition. "

The view from the Würzburger Steige shows the city within the city fortifications , because there were almost no buildings outside the medieval walls. The old town hall and the Catholic parish church of St. Augustine on the top left of the picture dominate the other buildings. The town fortifications with many towers and gates are still completely preserved on the engraving.

Fritz Bamberger's picture reflects the idyll of the Biedermeier period .
