Ansis Buševics

Ansis Buševics (born November 10, 1878 , † August 10, 1942 ) was a Latvian journalist, lawyer , social democratic politician and member of the first Saeima .

Life

Buševics graduated from the University of Petersburg with a law degree and was a lawyer from 1904.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Buševics was a co-founder of the Latvian Social Democratic Workers Party (LSDSP).

In Latvia's first free elections on January 19, 1919, Buševics was elected mayor of Liepāja (German: Libau ). He held this position until February 17, 1921. In his position he represented the Latvian side in the Peace of Riga on August 11, 1920 , as a result of which the Republic of Latvia was recognized by the Soviet Union .

In the elections in 1922, Buševics was elected to the first Saeima.
