Anta da Pedra de Anta

Protected since 2015, the Anta da Pedra de Anta (also called Casal da Pedra de Anta) is located 2.5 km southwest of Malhada Sorda , south of Almeida in the Guarda district in Portugal . Anta or dolmen is the Portuguese name for around 5000 megalithic structures that were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the cardial or imprint culture .

The Anta, built in the Chalcolithic period , consists of three thin, preserved, lateral granite slabs with a height of about 2.5 meters, which support a small ceiling slab. No traces of a hallway or the covering mamoa were found. It appears that substantial areas of the megalithic complex were used in the construction of three (now abandoned) houses near the monument.

The uniqueness of the location lies in the existence of painted motifs on the outer surface of the upper right part of one of the bearing stones, which mainly show network elements and circles. However, since the Portuguese monuments are usually not designed from the outside, the contemporary nature of the images is called into question.
