Anthony Carlisle
Anthony Carlisle ( Henry Bone , 1827)
Sir Anthony Carlisle (* 15. February 1768 in Stillington ; † 2. November 1840 in London ) was an English surgeon who in 1800 with William Nicholson , the electrolysis discovered.
After studying in London with John Hunter , he became a surgeon at Westmister Hospital in 1783 and stayed there for 47 years. When he and William Nicholson repeated the experiments of Alessandro Volta in 1800 , they both discovered electrolysis by chance.
