Anthony David Francis Henry Fane, 16th Earl of Westmorland (born August 1, 1951 ) is a British peer and politician (Crossbencher).

Life

Anthony David Francis Henry Fane, 16th Earl of Westmorland was born to David Anthony Thomas Fane, 15th Earl of Westmorland (1924-1993) and his wife Jane Barbara Findlay (1928-2009). His parents were married in 1950. She had three children, two sons and a daughter.

Anthony David Francis Henry Fane, 16th Earl of Westmorland attended Eton College in Berkshire , England. With the death of his father on September 8, 1993 he inherited the title of 16th Earl of Westmorland in the Peerage of England [created 1624] and the associated title of 16th Baron Burghersh in the County of Sussex in the Peerage of England [ created 1624].

In 1990 he was a member of the Orbitex Expedition to the North Pole (Orbitex North Pole Expedition). He was director of the Phillips International Auctioneers auction house . He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS).

Membership in the House of Lords

Inheriting the title of Earl of Westmorland, Fane became an official member of the House of Lords on September 8, 1993 . In the House of Lords he was listed as a non-party and non-attached. He was a formal member of the House of Lords from September 8, 1993 to November 11, 1999. On June 28, 1994 he took his seat in the House of Lords for the first time. There are no other entries on him in the Hansard . He was not present during the 1997/98 session. His membership in the House of Lords ended on November 11, 1999 by the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for election for one of the remaining seats.

Family and private

In 1985 he married Caroline Eldred Hughes, the daughter of Keon Hughes. The marriage resulted in a daughter (* 1989). In 2003 he lived at 31 Langton Street, London , England.

Probable title heir (heir presumptive) of the title of "Earl of Westmorland" is Hon. Harry St Clair Fane (* 1953), the second eldest son of David Fane, 15th Earl of Westmorland and the younger brother of the current title holder.
