Anthophora pubescens is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees are 8 to 9 millimeters long. The females are on the face and the underside of the chest hairs whitish at the center of the chest, the hair is gray mixed with black hair. The face is also drawn whitish. The tergites have white felt hair lying on the disc and isolated, protruding black hairs. The second to fourth tergite have hair ties on the rear edge, the fifth tergite has a black end fringe. The splint brush (Scopa) is white. The labrum and frontal plate ( clypeus ) have large shiny areas between their points. The face of the males has extensive white markings. They look similar to the females. At the end of the seventh tergite there are two teeth. On the middle pair of legs, the heel link (metatarsus) on the front edge and the claw link on both sides are provided with black hair fringes. The heel link on the hind legs is widened and has a protruding corner at the bottom of the front edge.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in Algeria and southern and central Europe, as well as in the Aosta Valley . It flies from late June to late August. The females lay their nests in the fragile mortar of walls and in loess walls. Pollen is collected from different plant families. Cuckoo bee of the species may be Coelioxys rufescens .
