Antipyretic
An antipyretic is an antipyretic or before fever protective drug . Such an active ingredient is called antipyretic . Most often it is administered as a component of analgesics . It inhibits prostaglandin E2 synthesis in the hypothalamus . This leads to increased heat dissipation due to the expansion of the skin vessels and increased sweat secretion , which means that the body is "defibrated".
The main fever lowering effects are:
- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen , naproxen , nimesulide and ketoprofen (arylpropionic acid derivatives ), ASA
- Paracetamol (aminophenol derivatives)
- Pyrazolone derivatives such as phenazone , propyphenazone , metamizole (banned in over 30 countries because of the potential (but very rare) cause of agranulocytosis )
- Nabumetone (arylacetic acid derivatives)
- quinine
Another, outdated term for antipyretic is febrifugum .
