Holger Werfel Scheuermann

Holger Werfel Scheuermann (born February 12, 1877 in Hørsholm , † March 3, 1960 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish orthopedist and radiologist. After him, adolescent kyphosis ( osteochondritis deformans juvenilis dorsi ) is also called Scheuermann's disease .

Holger Werfel Scheuermann comes from a family of doctors in Hörsholm, a small town between Copenhagen and the Øresund . He began studying medicine in 1895 and graduated from Copenhagen University in 1902. He then completed his hospital service in various clinics in Copenhagen. In 1918 he became a specialist in orthopedics and radiology.

He undertook study trips to Germany , Austria and Sweden and was chairman of the Danish Radiological Association from 1920 to 1922 and of the Danish Radiological Society from 1933 to 1934. In 1936 he also became a corresponding member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons . In the same year he received the Dannebrog Order .

After his retirement in 1947, he worked as a private radiologist for many years. In 1959 he finally received his doctorate - honoris causa - from Copenhagen University, 40 years after its original submission.
