Antoine Francisque
Antoine Francisque (* around 1570 in Saint-Quentin ; † October 1605 in Paris ) was a French lutenist and composer.
After youth and training in his hometown, he moved to Cambrai in 1596 , where he also married. Shortly afterwards, he finally settled in Paris. Here he worked as a soloist, teacher and composer until his death. He is one of those lutenists who, through their virtuosity, were able to keep interest in this instrument awake for some time, since at that time the guitar started its triumphant advance from Spain.
Around 1600 he published his main work, Le Trésor d'Orfée , which contains a large number of arrangements and his own works for lute in tablature form . His focus was on virtuously arranged dance melodies, but the collection also includes a ballet, four preludes and two fantasies.
