Anton Erdinger

Anton Erdinger (born January 2, 1829 in Steinegg ; † April 3, 1917 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian theologian and writer.

Life

The son of the hammer smith Johann Erdinger grew up in Steinegg, graduated from the Piarist high school in Horn from 1843 to 1849, then from the Piarist high school in Krems until 1851 and graduated from the seminary in St. Pölten in 1855. He worked as a chaplain in Burgschleinitz for a year before he was appointed Vice Rector of the Episcopal Boys' Seminary in Krems from 1856 to 1865 and was appointed Professor of Moral Theology at the Diocesan Theological College in St. Pölten in 1865 and director of the Episcopal Seminary in St. Pölten in 1873 . In 1886 he was appointed canon, leaving the seminary and entering the cathedral chapter. In 1891 he became vicar general of the diocese of St. Pölten and in 1900 was provost. In 1898 Erdinger received the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order.

His brothers Karl Borromäus Erdinger and Augustin Franz Erdinger also embarked on a theological career.

Works

Erdinger wrote numerous ascetic, historical, homiletic and pastoral writings. The continuation of biographical work and his collaboration in historical and local history publications are of particular importance.
