Anton Giulio Majano

Anton Giulio Majano (born July 5, 1909 in Chieti , † August 12, 1994 in Marino ) was an Italian film and television director and screenwriter .

Life

Majano graduated in political science and began his film career in 1937 while working on Luis Trenker's Condottieri ; Over the next almost twenty years he was responsible for dialogues, assistant directors or scripts - often for Mario Costa - for numerous films; after the Second World War he worked on some notable works such as La domenica della buona gente or Terrore sulla città . In 1943 he made his debut as a cinema director and had produced around ten works by 1961, which, however, remained little in the mind.

Its real importance lies in its television work; from 1955, with the film Piccole donne , he was the main exponent and inventor of the teleromanzo genre , to which he contributed numerous films. In addition, he filmed - after 1961 working exclusively for the small screen and often as mini-series - but also classics such as Treasure Island , An American Tragedy , The Beloved of the Great Bear or David Copperfield for Italian television. With a work that tends to be a little too sentimental, he is considered one of the medium's most important early directors.

The actress Paola Majano is his daughter.
