politics

Anton Knerzl has been a community representative in Öblarn since 1990. He was a local councilor until 1995, then deputy mayor between 1995 and 2000 and was elected mayor of the community in 2000. At the beginning of July 2006, however, Knerzl and the local council were deposed by the state government because of gross inconsistencies in the budget. Knerzl had failed several times to implement his budget proposal in the local council. In the new election of the municipal council on October 29, 2006, Knerzl won the election and achieved five seats in the municipality with 33.7%. Despite his electoral victory, Knerzl was not re-elected mayor in December 2006, but only vice mayor. A case against Knerzl for breach of trust and abuse of office was discontinued in summer 2007. In the municipal council elections on March 21, 2010, however, he had to accept a loss of votes with his independent citizens' list and clearly defeated the ÖVP in Öblarn.

Knerzl was local party chairman of FPÖ Öblarn and from 1996 district party chairman of FPÖ Liezen . From 1995 he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Styria and from 2003 he was also the regional party chairman of the FPÖ Styria. After a dispute with FPÖ state party leader Leopold Schöggl , Knerzl moved to the BZÖ in 2005. From 2006 he was a representative of the list Knerzl Anton (LKA), from 2010 as the citizen list Anton Knerzl (AKÖ) in the municipal council
