Anton Lippe

Anton Lippe (born April 28, 1905 in Sankt Anna am Aigen ; † February 19, 1974 in Berlin ) was a Catholic priest , prelate and cathedral music director .

Life

Born as the son of an East Styrian merchant family and raised in a rural area, Anton Lippe attended the Episcopal Gymnasium in Graz and passed his Matura there. He then studied Catholic theology at the University of Graz . Since 1926 he was a member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Traungau Graz . After graduating, he was ordained priest in 1928 and then worked as a chaplain in Pöllau .

From 1935, Lippe directed the Graz Cathedral Choir , which he led at an internationally recognized level. In 1963 he jumped for a council concert before Pope Paul VI. for the unexpectedly deceased cathedral music director Theodor Rehmann, director of the Aachen cathedral choir . In 1964 he was appointed Kapellmeister of the choir of St. Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin.

Lippe, who died in Berlin, was buried in his place of birth.
