biography

Nossik was born into the family of the writer Boris Nossik and the philologist- polonist in Viktoria Motschalowa. His father has been an honorary member of the Russian Art Academy since 2011 .

Despite his profile as a pioneer of the digital scene in Russia, Nossik has a medical background in the academic field. In 1989 he graduated from Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry .

In the early 1990s, Nossik emigrated to Israel and worked there for a while for the daily newspaper The Jerusalem Post . From 1994–1995 he was the editor of the Russian-language newspaper “Nachrichten aus Cyprus ” (“Вести с Кипра”) published in Limassol , Cyprus . In 1997 he returned to Russia.

Nossik was the initiator and implementer of the first blog project in the Russian-speaking Internet space Runet , which was active from December 1996 to April 1999. He was one of the founders of the "Pomogi.org." Aid fund in late 2005.

From autumn 2006 Nossik worked as a social media evangelist in the international online media company SUP Media , which was established by Andrew Paulson and Alexander Leonidowitsch Mamut . In September 2008 he left SUP Media.

From October 2009 to March 2011, Nossik headed the news section of the Russian online business portal Bfm.ru.

After a short-term return to SUP Media (2011–2012), Nossik launched the online agency “Мохнатый сыр” GmbH (“fluffy cheese”) in 2014, which among other things focused on marketing research and determining public opinion.

In the last two years of his life, Nossik was in poor health. He died of a heart attack on July 9, 2017 and was buried in the Wostryakovo cemetery.

Public activities

Nosik was a member of the Russian Jewish Congress.

In March 2013, Nosik participated in a series of rallies calling for the release of the imprisoned Pussy Riot activists. He was considered one of the greatest critics of the Russian government, who he accused of having increasingly restricted Internet freedoms in Russia through harsh laws.

In March 2017, Nosik took part in the so-called “Conference of Bloggers” in Xankəndi (Stepanakert), the capital of the internationally unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh . From there he made some abusive remarks to the Azerbaijani side and openly spoke out in favor of Nagorno-Karabakh's secession from Azerbaijan. Since the region occupied by Armenian separatists belongs to Azerbaijan under international law, the government in Baku blacklisted Nosik for his illegal entry into the breakaway area.
