Anton van Dale

Anton van Dale (Anthonie, Antonius) ( November 8, 1638 in Haarlem - November 28, 1708 in Haarlem) was a Dutch Mennonite preacher, doctor and author of religious texts.

The contemporary theologian Jean Leclerc described him as an enemy of everything supernatural . He was also a critic of the witch hunt . In his writings he mainly dealt critically with Christian interpretations of pagan oracles . His work, which was later received and popularized by the French enlightener Fontenelle , marks an important intermediate stage in the process of secularization of the West .
