Antonietta Cherchi

Maria Antonietta Pomesano Cherchi (* before 1940) is an Italian micro paleontologist . She was a professor at the University of Cagliari , where she has been since the early 1960s.

She conducts research on Cenozoic and Mesozoic microfossils and especially foraminifera . One of her main research interests is the Tertiary of Sardinia , but she also dealt with the conodont biostratigraphy of the Triassic . She was involved in the Deep Sea Drilling Project and also studies recent foraminifera as an indicator of pollution.

She is a corresponding member of the Paleontological Society . From 2000 to 2003 she was President of the Italian Paleontological Society, of which she has been a member since 1963.
