Antonio Albanés (* before 1952; † November 5, 2012 ) was a Uruguayan road cyclist .

Career

Albanés took part in the Uruguay national tour , the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay , three times . In 1952 he finished 35th out of 192 riders who started. In the following year he was 18th. In 1954 he reached the 24th place of 163 participants in the overall ranking.

In 1954 Albanés opened a cycling shop in Florida , which still existed in 2013. In addition to his work in his cycling business, he also worked as a trainer and, for example, supervised the Uruguayan selection at the Vuelta a Guatemala in 1967, which at the time included Saúl Alcántara , Raúl Etchebarne , Rene Decena and Raúl Cortes .

In 2011 Albanés was given the honor of naming daily sections after him in Uruguayan stage races such as the 19th edition of the Vuelta del Congreso . In addition, at the meeting of the Junta Departamental de Florida on March 18, 2011, in speeches by Edile Carlos Martínez Latorraca and Rafael Cosentino, alongside Walter Varela and Dardo Sánchez, he was named one of the most important cyclists in Florida's cycling history.

Albanés died early in the age of nine and was buried in the Florida City Cemetery. On the occasion of the first anniversary of his death, the Club Ciclista Deportivo San Antonio put a plaque on Albanés' grave.

Antonio Albanés was born to Victoriano Albanés and had at least three sisters. He also had children with his wife.
