Antonio Bonvicino
Antonio Bonvicino , also Antonio di Ranieri or Antonio di Raniero , (active 1st half of the 15th century ) was an Italian wood carver . He was mainly active in Venice . Nothing is known about his origins and training.
Life
Until recently he was known for only one work, a wooden crucifix in the parish church of Castel di Mezzo near Fiorenzuola di Focara in Pesaro . This was painted by the painter Jacobello del Fiore (1370–1439) and bears the inscription: ANTUONIO DE BONV / EXIN. INTAIATORE. ST / LAVORIO IN VENEZIA. IACOMELO DE FIOR. P.
In more recent times his work has been examined in more detail, so that his oeuvre has been enriched with a few more wooden sculptures. The wooden crucifix from the warehouse of the Church of Santa Maria Gloriosa die Frari, which has been in the Berlin sculpture collection since 1885, is of particular art historical interest . This work, made around 1425, extends the artist's creative period previously assumed to be between 1401 and 1415 by several years.
