Antonio Gómezanda

Antonio Gómezanda (born September 3, 1894 in Lagos de Moreno , † March 24, 1961 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican composer and pianist .

Life

Gómezanda had his first music lessons in his hometown and went to Mexico City in 1907 to study medicine. But he soon switched to music and was a student of Manuel María Ponce and Julián Carrillo at the Conservatorio National , which he graduated in 1912. He gave concerts in various Mexican cities and Texas and performed at the invitation of José Vasconcelos in Paris, where he found the support of the pianist Édouard Risler .

Concerts in Spain, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Italy and Germany followed, where he was the first Mexican musician to perform in the Dresden Beethoven Hall and with the Berlin Philharmonic under Richard Hagel . After his return to Mexico his most important compositions were written. His more than three hundred works include piano and orchestral pieces as well as music for the film Fantasía ranchera (1943).
