Antonio Mara , called lo Scarpetta (born around 1680 in Bergamo ; died around 1750 there ) was an Italian painter . How he got his nickname ("The Slipper") is just as unknown as his exact life dates.

Without any actual training as a painter, he began as a copyist of paintings, especially by Jacques Courtois , of which there were many in Bergamo at the time. He achieved such mastery in this that his copies were preferred to the originals. Later, he turned to the trompe l'oeil - still life to. His specialty were colored engravings and watercolors attached to a wooden board with various writing or other utensils in the manner of Samuel van Hoogstraeten and Cornelis Gijsbrechts , which were still very popular with collectors throughout the 18th century.

He also painted portraits and pictures of saints .
