Antonio Marchi (librettist)

Antonio Marchi (* around 1670 ?; † after 1725) was an Italian librettist .

Life

Little is known about Marchi's life. Between 1692 and 1725 he wrote eight libretti for Venetian opera houses . a. were set to music by Albinoni and Vivaldi .

style

Marchi had no great poetic ambitions, but a good instinct for dialogues and actions that were effective on the stage. When dealing with historical material, he did not shy away from deviations from the traditional sources.
