Antonio Maria Lisboa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antonio Maria Lisboa (born August 1, 1928 in Lisbon , Portugal ; † September 11, 1953 there ) was a Portuguese poet . Along with Mário Cesariny, he was one of the founders of poetic and literary surrealism in Portugal.

Life

Antonio Maria Lisboa was born in Lisbon and, at the request of his father, took up a technical education, which he hated because he wasn't interested in technology. In 1949 and 1951 he stayed in Paris - for two months each - where he became familiar with Hinduism , occultism and esotericism . Together with his friend Mario Cesariny and others, he founded various surrealist meetings, clubs, circles and events in Portugal from 1947 and is therefore one of the co-founders of literary surrealism in Portugal.

The Surrealists in Portugal always saw themselves as dissidents , also within the literary scene.

The poet died young of complications from tuberculosis . Later surrealist poets like Alexandre O'Neill were influenced by Lisboa. A street in Amadora is named after the poet.
