Antonio Rodríguez Salvador

Antonio Rodríguez Salvador (born December 22, 1960 in Taguasco , Cuba ) is a Cuban poet, dramaturge and essayist. He studied economics and is professor of editing and style at the University of José Martí and of dramaturgy at the Pedagogical University of Silverio Blanco in Sancti Spíritus .

He is regarded as one of the most outstanding voices in contemporary Latin American literature. His style is distinguished by linguistic accuracy and his prose reflects his poetic skills. His story has a mythical touch in the exploration of reality with diverse variants of creative power. The absurd is seen as part of real life described in the work. There is a close interaction with a philosophical-burlesque view of life.

Life

Antonio Rodríguez Salvador was born on December 22, 1960 in Taguasco , Province of Sancti Spíritus , Cuba. His father Joaquín Antonio Rodríguez Castro was also a writer, whose critically acclaimed work was published in the collection of poems "Flor de Campanillas" in 1950 and in various anthologies, including the anthology 200 Years of Sonnet in Cuba. He attended military school and graduated from Las Villas University in 1983 with a degree in economics . He also attracted attention in sports: in 1979 he won the national university chess competition; In 1985 he achieved the best result in the national postal competition for the first chess category.

From 1987 to 1995 Antonio Rodríguez Salvador was the director of the most important paper combine in Cuba and in 1990 he stayed in the Soviet Union for business reasons . From 1995 to 1997 he held an important post in the Association of Cuban Paper Manufacturers. In 1997, however, his novel Rolandos won two literary competitions in Spain and he decided to end his career in business and devote himself entirely to literature. Since 1993 he has been a member of the Association of Cuban Authors and Artists. From 1999 to 2000 he was director of the Luminaria publishing house . In 2000 he was recognized as a personality of culture and in 2005 he was made an honorary member of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz , the state association for young cultural workers. In 1997 he received the coat of arms of the Spanish city of Rojales , Alicante province .
