Antonio G. Siccardi (born October 1, 1944 in Varese ) is an Italian immunologist and virologist .

Siccardi graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pavia and graduated in 1968. He later became an assistant professor for genetics (1973 to 1980) and then for microbiology (1974 to 1980). After a short research stay as a full professor in Rome (1980 to 1982), he was appointed full professor of molecular immunology at the University of Milan . From 1990 to 1994 he was the operational director of the DIBIT research institute in Milan. From 1991 to 1998 he coordinated HIV / AIDS research at the Research Institute of the Ospedale San Raffaele at the University of Milan. He is (2015) Professor at the University of Milan at the Research Institute of the Ospedale San Raffaele . Siccardi is a member of the council of the Istituto Nazionale di Genetica Molecolare (INGM). From 2000 to 2008 he was Deputy Professor of Genetics at the Psychological Faculty of the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan and from 2006 he was Deputy Professor of the History of Genetics at the Biotechnology Faculty of the Università Vita Salute San Raffaele .

Siccardi is married to Giovanna Viale, biologist and professor at the Center of the University and High School of Milan-for Bioscience education (CusMiBio) in Milan.

research

Siccardi conducts research with a focus on the molecular immunology of HIV , influenza , cancer (especially mesothelioma ), immunoglobulin E , and vaccine design based on recombinant modified vaccinia Ankara viruses (MVA) or birdpox viruses . Siccardi developed a recombinant MVA-based vaccination vector with different fluorescent reporter genes , which indicate the course of its recombination with the transgene of an antigen (green, colorless, red).
