Antonios Antoniadis ( Greek Αντώνιος Αντωνιάδης , born May 2, 1985 in Aachen ) is a Belgian politician of the Socialist Party (SP). After he was elected regional president of the SP for the Belgian German-speaking area in October 2011, he has been Minister of the Government of the German-speaking Community since June 30, 2014 , responsible for family, health and social issues.

Life

In 1987, at the age of one, Antonios Antoniadis moved with his family from Germany to Greece , where his parents were born. When they moved to Eupen , Belgium in 1998 , Antonios Antoniadis and his siblings could only speak Greek. In Belgium he learned the German language and in 2004 obtained the general university entrance qualification at the Pater Damian secondary school in Eupen. After aborting law studies at the University of Trier (2004 to 2006), Antoniadis obtained a diploma in language and communication sciences as well as in business education and knowledge psychology at RWTH Aachen University in 2010 .

Antonios Antoniadis took his first steps in politics as an independent member of Junge Mitte , a youth organization affiliated with the Christian Social Party (CSP), before later opting for the SP. Initially employed as an employee in the cabinet of the Prime Minister of the German-speaking Community , Karl-Heinz Lambertz , he was elected regional president of the SP in October 2011 at the age of 26. He won his first political mandate in the municipal council elections in 2012: He moved into the city council of Eupen, where the SPplus took part in the majority under Mayor Karl-Heinz Klinkenberg ( PFF ).

In 2014 Antoniadis was the top candidate in the European elections and candidate (14th place) in the community elections, but could not achieve the EU seat. In the course of the formation of a coalition in the German-speaking community, in which the SP together with the ProDG and the PFF under the leadership of Prime Minister Oliver Paasch (ProDG) formed the majority, Antonios Antoniadis was elected member of the government at the age of 29. Since then he has held the office of Minister for Family, Health and Social Affairs.
