Life

Oliver Paasch is the eldest son of the former PDB politician Lorenz Paasch and brother of the FIAN activist Armin Paasch.

Paasch studied at the Universities of Namur ( FUNDP ) and Louvain-la-Neuve ( UCL ). In 1995 he obtained a licentiate in rights. This was followed by training at the banks Crédit Général (Namur) and ABB ( Brussels ). From 1995 to 1997 he worked as a credit analyst at Crédit Général in Liège , after which he became branch manager of the same bank in Malmedy for one year. He then worked as a management consultant and deputy director of the CBC Bank's business center in Verviers until 2003 , after which he rose to the post of director for a year.

His interest in politics began while studying in Namur, where Paasch was president of the general student union. From 1993 to 1994 he took over the presidency of the Association of German-Speaking Students (Eumavia) at the Catholic University of Leuven in New Leuven, where he was Vice-President of the Association of Walloon Students in 1994 and 1995.

In 1994 he was one of the founding members of the movement “Youth for Europe” (Juropa), which entered into a party alliance with the PDB in view of the elections for the Council of the German-speaking Community . About three years later, in 1997, Oliver Paasch became a member of the Council (today: Parliament) of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. He has been a member of the government of the German-speaking Community since 2004, initially as Minister for Education and Scientific Research and from June 2009 as Minister for Education, Training and Employment. The ProDG emerged as the big winner in the 2014 community elections . Oliver Paasch continued the alliance with socialists ( SP ) and liberals ( PFF ), but at the same time replaced Karl-Heinz Lambertz (SP) from the government chairmanship and since then has led the government as prime minister.
