ProDG ( Pro D eutschsprachige G emeinschaft ) is a regional party in the German-speaking area of Belgium . The free citizen list ProDG.be (ProDG for short) was founded on June 13, 2008 on the initiative of Oliver Paasch in Eupen (Belgium). In their ranks there are many new faces as well as members of the former PJU-PDB (Party of German-speaking Belgians). The so-called ProDG profile is based on the principle of openness - free of ideological constraints and independent of a Walloon parent party. ProDG strives for a German-speaking region with equal rights in one of the four states of Belgium, which cooperates with the various Belgian as well as European partners in the search for tailor-made solutions for the German-speaking community of Belgium (DG) and is specifically involved in networks.

history

The party of German-speaking Belgians (PDB) was founded in December 1971 as a regional party based on the Christian-social tradition. Her main focus was on defending the identity of the population of the German-speaking area in Belgium. The PDB saw itself as democratic - pluralistic , federal and social . She strived for full equality of the German-speaking area of Belgium in federalized Belgium on a political, social, economic, administrative and cultural level. In doing so, she did not question the fact that the German-speaking area was part of the Belgian state structure, but viewed the fact that the German-speaking area belonged to the Walloon Region and the Province of Liège only as a legal fact, which she advocated amendment.

The PDB saw itself as pro-European, but called for more democratic structures at the level of the European Union and a Europe of regions , as opposed to a Europe of nation states . The PDB was a member of the European Free Alliance (EFA) and the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) .

After the PDB suffered a bitter defeat after the municipal council elections in 2006 and since then had only one council representative in the German-speaking community (in Eupen ), a re-establishment of the party under the leadership of Community Minister Oliver Paasch was proposed. The successor party continues to see itself as an independent regional party and representative of German-speaking interests, which is why the name "ProDG" was chosen.

On November 14th 2009 the PDB was officially dissolved during an academic meeting in the Hotel Ambassador-Bosten in Eupen .

The political movement ProDG took part in the elections for the parliament of the German-speaking Community (PDG) for the first time on June 7, 2009 and immediately won four of the 25 seats in parliament: Alfons Velz (parliamentary group chairman), Lydia Klinkenberg , Petra Schmitz and Freddy Cremer (up to 2010 Gerhard Palm ) represented the ProDG parliamentary group in the PDG. Due to their participation in government in a coalition with the SP and the PFF, ProDG is also sending the top candidate of the PDG elections 2009 Oliver Paasch as Minister of Education and Employment and Harald Mollers as Minister of Health and Social Affairs to the DG government in the 2009-2014 legislative period .

On February 1, 2013 Oliver Paasch (deputy chairman: Harald Mollers, until 2010 Marco Zinnen) handed over the chairmanship of the ProDG to Clemens Scholzen (deputy chairman: Freddy Cremer).

After the ProDG won the parliamentary elections in 2014 , the coalition of ProDG, SP and PFF was continued, but under the leadership of the ProDG. With Oliver Paasch, a prime minister from the ranks of the ProDG was appointed for the first time.

In 2018, the previous chairman and his deputy were replaced by two co-chairs with equal rights, DG MPs Lydia Klinkenberg and Petra Schmitz.
