Election of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community 2019
The 2019 election of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community will take place on May 26, 2019. The members of the legislature of the German-speaking Community of Belgium are elected for the legislative period 2019–2024. You can choose from the Christian Social Party (CSP), Ecolo , the Party for Freedom and Progress (PFF), ProDG , the Socialist Party (SP) and Vivant . The Parti Libertarium , which started in 2014 , will not take place again.
On the same day, the elections for the Belgian Chamber of Deputies , the European elections in Belgium and the elections for the Flemish and Walloon Parliaments and the Brussels Capital Region will take place.
Starting position
Although the CSP was the largest group in parliament during the 2014–2019 legislative period, like Ecolo and Vivant, it was not part of the government. For the third time in a row, a coalition between ProDG, SP and PFF was formed. It was headed by Oliver Paasch (ProDG) as Prime Minister and, in addition to him, included a minister from each of the coaling parties. They were:
- Oliver Paasch (ProDG): Prime Minister, responsible for the coordination of political work, finances and budget, administration and personnel, domestic and international relations, European programs, institutional reforms, community infrastructures (except school infrastructures and community centers) and law enforcement
- Isabelle Weykmans (PFF): Vice-Prime Minister, responsible for employment, business development agency, culture, monument protection, media, sport, youth, tourism, community centers, telecommunications, spatial planning and road construction
- Harald Mollers (ProDG): Minister responsible for education, school infrastructures, training and further education in the field of SMEs and agriculture, adult education, lifelong learning and scientific research
- Antonios Antoniadis (SP): Minister responsible for social affairs, family, senior citizens, health care, disability policy, youth welfare, development cooperation, consumer protection, youth protection, child allowances and housing
Candidacies
The six parties represented in parliament since 2014 announced that they would run again for it. The lists each have 25 places and are led by the following top candidates:
Colin Kraft (CSP)
Freddy Mockel (Ecolo)
Isabelle Weykmans (PFF)
Oliver Paasch (ProDG)
