Election of the Council of the German-speaking Community in 1999
The 1999 election of the Council of the German-speaking Community took place on June 13, 1999. The members of the legislature of the German-speaking Community of Belgium were elected for the legislative period 1999–2004. The Christian Social Party (CSP), the Socialist Party (SP), the Party for Freedom and Progress (PFF), the party of German-speaking Belgians with the non-party young independent (PJU / PDB), Ecolo and Vivant stood for election .
A total of 45,173 people were entitled to vote in the election, of which 36,862 cast valid votes. These were distributed among the individual parties as follows:

The Vivant party stood for the first time in an election for the Council of the German-speaking Community and narrowly failed to enter parliament, for which it would have needed around 50 more votes.
Finally, the SP, PFF and Ecolo came together to form a three-party coalition, which sent the following ministers to the government of the German-speaking community :
- Karl-Heinz Lambertz (SP): Prime Minister, Minister for Labor, Media and Sport
- Bernd Gentges (PFF): Minister for Education, Training, Culture and Tourism
- Hans Niessen (Ecolo): Minister for Youth, Family, Monument Protection, Health and Social Affairs
