Bernd Gentges

Bernd Gentges (born October 12, 1943 in Bütgenbach ) is a Belgian politician. From 2004 to 2009 he was Vice-Prime Minister of the German-speaking Community and Minister for Education and Training, Employment, Social Affairs and Tourism. Gentges is married and has three children and seven grandchildren.

After studying German, Bernd Gentges was a teacher from 1967 to 1973 at the Eupen Robert Schuman Institute (then STI), at the Royal Athenaeum in Eupen, at the State Normal School in Verviers and at the State Advanced Training School in Eupen. In 1973 and 1974 he served as a special envoy in the cabinet of Deputy Prime Minister Willy De Clercq and sat as an advisor in the cabinet of the Interior Minister.

Since 1977 he has also been the managing director of FEKA PGmbH in St. Vith . From 1990 to 1995 and from 1999 to 2004 Gentges was Minister for Education, Culture, Youth and Scientific Research in the government of the German-speaking Community . From 2004 to 2009 Gentges was a member of the government as Vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Education and Employment, Social Affairs and Tourism.
