history

As a result of the Second World War , the number of Catholics in the area around Winsen, which has been Protestant since the Reformation, increased considerably due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire . Initially, the Catholics in Winsen belonged to the parish of Maria Hilfe der Christisten in Wietze .

1971 was built in Winsen the Holy Cross Church, on 4 December 1971 their benediction by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . Since 1984/85 the church belongs to the parish Hl. Guardian Angel in Hambühren. In June 2010 the church got a new interior painting, which was carried out by volunteers from the community.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built by the diocesan building department according to plans by Josef Fehlig , designed as a precast concrete church with a free-standing bell tower.
