Dragon kill points

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dragon Kill Points ( DKP ) is a scoring system in many online games , especially MMORPGs , is used to captured objects ( Loot split) to each player of a group.

background

After building the characters up to the highest level of experience (level cap), such games mainly revolve around the procurement of equipment for the characters, such as weapons, helmets, breastplates, etc. The best of these objects can almost exclusively be obtained by defeating certain high-level opponents become. However, the games are usually designed in such a way that these opponents cannot be fought alone, but only in large groups of players. Since several players within these groups usually hope for the same items, and throwing the dice for them is not considered an optimal decision-making tool due to the fact that it is not possible to pay attention to the individual's achievements (e.g. attendance at every raid, which sometimes lasts more than 3 hours) a DKP system is often used within the guild or group.

functionality

Players receive DKP for participating in guild ventures such as raids and can then use them as currency to bid for items dropped by opponents, like at an auction .
But there are also other DKP systems. Depending on the interpretation of the DKP rules of a community of players, the points can also be offered in advance as a purchase price for items that have not yet been dropped.

Capture

The games themselves usually do not offer DKP management. The guilds are therefore dependent on external programs. These are integrated into the website and maintained there. They also offer good attendance statistics and are often linked to a database that shows who has spent how many DKPs on which item.

advantages

The system allows more active players to get better rewards than those who do not participate as often. In principle, you are mainly rewarded for your online time, as well as for your performance in killing bosses . Last but not least, the number of DKP also determines the reputation in the playgroup.

disadvantage

Occasional gamers who are unwilling or unable to spend many hours participating in raids several times a week have fewer chances of getting good equipment because their DKP account is only filled slowly.
However, items of equipment are also stolen several times, which casual gamers can then reach a little later, but also cheaper.
The additional administrative effort should not be underestimated. The paid DKP and who participated in the raid from when to when must be noted and entered in the DKP system.
