Joseph Maraite

Joseph Maraite (born September 11, 1949 in Weismes ) is a Belgian politician ( CSP ) and former Prime Minister of the German-speaking Community of Belgium.

Life

Joseph Maraite studied German and worked in education from 1972 to 1976, then as a ministerial advisor in several federal ministries until 1984. Since 1977 he has been a member of the parliament of the German-speaking community and its predecessor institution. After the federal reform in Belgium, he joined the government of the German-speaking Community in 1984 and headed it from 1986 to 1999 as Prime Minister.

From 2004 to 2017 he was mayor of Burg-Reuland . In February 2020 he was able to receive the certificate from Prime Minister Oliver Paasch , which distinguishes him as honorary mayor.
