Anund Gårdske

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anund Gårdske , whose real name is unknown, was King of Sweden between around 1070 and 1075 after Halsten Stenkilsson was driven from the throne.

Life

Little is known about Anund Gårdskes reign. He probably never went to Uppsala to pick up the crown. He belonged to the same family as Erik the Victory , that is, the old royal family from Uppsala. We still know that he came from Russia , hence the nickname, Anund der Russe .

In 1075 the Swedes accepted Haakon the Red from Västergötland as their king.

The name Anund Gårdske means Anund från Gårdarike , which means Anund from Gårdarike .
