Halsten is said to have been king of Sweden for a short time after the year 1066 , according to Adam von Bremen , who mentions him only in a marginal note . With him a new generation came to power.

Halsten was a son of Stenkil Ragnvaldsson and his wife, a daughter of Emund the old . He was the father of the two kings Philip and Inge II the younger .

Maybe ruled Halsten to about 1068 along with his brother Inge I. in Sweden . Halsten's year of death is very uncertain, it could have been 1070 or 1084. According to some sources, Halsten's power was severely impaired by Inge I. Because of his excessive commitment to Christianity , he could also have caused the following quarrels for the throne between 1066 and 1088. Paganism was on the rise again and Stenkil could no longer preside over the sacrifice in Gamla Uppsala . He had to act cautiously domestically, and so he prevented the destruction of the temple in Gamla Uppsala.
