Philipp (Sweden)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philip (also Filip or Filippus ; † 1118 ) was King of Sweden from 1105 to 1118 .

In the traditions it is said that Philip ruled together with his brother Inge the Younger . Both were sons of Sovad of Sweden and nephews of Inge the Elder .

Philipp was married to Ingegerd , daughter of the Norwegian King Harald Hardråde and his wife Elisabet, a Russian princess, granddaughter of King Olof Skötkonung and widow of Olaf Hunger . No children are known from this marriage.

Sometimes it has been assumed that Philipp was murdered by his brother Inge.

After the Västgötalagen , Philip was a good and law-abiding king. He is said to be buried with his brother in the Vreta monastery , where two skeletons of very tall people were found. This at least agrees with statements that the members of the Stenkil family were tall.
